Module 2 Introduction: (U2 M2) Energy and Enzymes

Energy is a difficult concept to understand for the average biology student because even some of the most learned physicists don’t have a complete understanding of what energy is. However, in this Module you will attempt to gain a deeper understanding of it nonetheless! You will look at how cells use energy to fuel chemical reactions, how enzymes help the cell conserve as much energy in the process, and how cells regulate the enzymes involved in these reactions.

Module Outcomes:

  • Explain in simple terms how and what chemical reactions consume or release energy.

  • Describe how biological molecules shape the structure and function of cells and organisms.

  • Perform the appropriate experiment to analyze biological materials.
