Lorain Community College’s Bernie Gosky shares OhioTechNET’s Statewide Sector Strategy approach with the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association, state economic and workforce development, and higher education partners. OhioTechNET has established over 500 partnerships with advanced manufacturing employers.


Competency Based Education Portal

Knowledge to Work (K2W): A Portal for Competencies and Individualized Learning

Lord Fairfax Community College’s John Milam describes the benefits of competency-based education and the Knowledge to Work portal. The Knowledge to Work portal was designed to support direct assessment and was built with many of the same features, such as using national competency frameworks, personalized learning, and OER. The portal also provides students with personalized learning plans using competencies tied to open educational resources.


Implementation and Execution of Apprenticeships in Healthcare

HealthCARE Montana

Missoula College’s Kaye Norris describes the design and execution of healthcare apprenticeships in Montana. The creation of a Healthcare Apprenticeship Implementation Toolkit could assist community colleges in the development of their own apprenticeship program.


Annette Parker, president of South Central College in Minnesota, describes how she engaged fellow college presidents, business leaders, and legislators in developing a shared vision that aligns college programs with the manufacturing sector across the state and embeds new models to create access and flexibility to improve student success.

Pam Eddinger, president of Bunker Hill Community College in Boston, discusses how she fostered a culture of innovation and openness to change at her college and how the TAACCCT grant allowed Bunker Hill to scale and sustain numerous initiatives.

Dorey Diab, President of North Central State College in Ohio, describes how the TAACCCT grant enabled the creation of the Advanced Manufacturing Mechatronics and Quality Consortium, which is unique in that it’s not a regional or state consortium but instead is made up of colleges from around the country. The college also used the TAACCCT grant to find new ways to engage employers and community partners to help dislocated workers.
