Module 2 Introduction: (U3 M2) Mendelian Genetics

The first of 2 Modules focused on genetics and inheritance patterns. Now, you will explore the birthplace of modern genetic principles which took place in a small vegetable garden in an Austrian monastery by a man named Gregor Mendel. We will look at the research he conducted with pea plants to learn some of the basic principles that govern inheritance patterns, as well as conduct some research of our own.

Module Outcomes:

  • Differentiate between characteristics that are and are not likely to be hereditary, and given parents and offspring, explain simple Mendelian patterns of inheritance, and how these principles of hereditary relate to body characteristics, genetic diseases, sex determination, and biological diversity.
