Growth and Development Family - Infant
Introduction
This module will discuss the family as a unit and the various types of family units. This module will also cover the growth and development of the newborn throughout the first year of life. We will study all aspects of health care such as nutrition, immunizations, play and safety and taking care of a hospitalized infant. In addition, stages of psychosocial development by Erikson and cognitive development by Piaget will be identified.
Objectives
Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Recall when and how conception occurs
- Identify major factors that influence growth and development
- List characteristics of the normal newborn
- Recognize the physical growth, motor development, intellectual development including language, and social behavior during the first year of life
- Identify essential development milestones and the age at which they usually occur
