Mitosis

Mitosis is a phase of the cell cycle (M phase) which as we have seen in the previous figure, is also divided into phases. There are a total of six (6) phases within Mitosis.

  1. Prophase
  2. Prometaphase
  3. Metaphase
  4. Anaphase
  5. Telophase
  6. Cytokinesis

One way these phases can be easily remembered is to think of this pneumonic:

In Prophase the chromosomes aPpear

In Metaphase, they move to the Middle

In Anaphase, the chromatids pull Apart

In Telophase, they are Two cells (for the purposes of this pneumonic, telophase includes cytokinesis)
